Parent to Parent F.A.Q.'s
1. What is Parent-to-Parent?
Parent to Parent is a nationally recognized video-based parenting program that empowers parents. With the message that as a parent "You are primary", the program helps parents develop the competence, confidence and commitment needed to guide their children through the adolescent years. Parent to Parent offers parents the opportunity to network and connect with other parents and learn how to be a barrier between their children and the pervasive influence of the "Toxic Culture".
2. How does it work?
There are 8 sessions to Parent-to-Parent, covering such topics as "The Toxic Culture", "Putting Yourself in the Way", "Awareness is Your Best Friend", "Remember the Difference", "Expect and Inspect", "Never Cry Alone", "Traps to Avoid", "Building a Family Vision". Groups of parents come together, review the sessions and then have open discussion about the information presented.
3. Why should I take time away from my family to take a parenting class?
You can't afford not to. We know families are very busy and sometimes it's this busyness that keeps parents from being as involved with their children as they might like to be. There are many influences surrounding our children that could lead them down the wrong road. Parent to Parent teaches you how to be the first line of defense against the "Toxic Culture". Many parents are good parents but they are naive about the world as their child experiences it. As the founder of Parent to Parent, Bill Oliver says, "When it comes to preventing children from engaging in dangerous behaviors, such as drug use, a trained and motivated parent is the greatest prevention program ever invented" and the whole purpose of Parent to Parent is to keep Healthy Families Healthy. 8 hours as compared to your child's healthy future is a small investment.
4. Does it have to take 8 weeks?
No. There are 8 sessions to Parent to Parent and they can be presented in a combination of ways including four 2-hour sessions or two 4-hour sessions. Ideally, the program works as one session per week but we realize that may not work for everyone's schedule. We will take Parent to Parent to any group of parents that are interested. We could offer it through a church or business or even to a group of neighbors. We can present Parent to Parent at any location as long as there is access to electricity to show the videos.
5. Who is Bill Oliver, the founder?
As Bill says in his own words: "I wasn't a bad parent, I was a naive parent". Bill's daughter became involved in the drug culture and the experience almost tore his family apart. After a long struggle to get their daughter back, Bill resolved to help other parents avoid getting in the same situation. He founded The Passage Group in 1988 and developed Parent-to-Parent. Since that time, the program has reached over 2 million parents.
